St Margaret’s Church Streatham Hill
Built in 1906, St Margaret the Queen is a beautiful grade 2 listed redbrick church on Barcombe Avenue, Streatham Hill. Reverend Gareth Powell was appointed to the church in 2014. He will be overseeing the redevelopment of the church (see below).
Religious Services
The church holds weekly services every Sunday at 6.30pm. These alternate between compline communion services. Following these services the congregation usually meets in Perfect Blend on Streatham High Road to discuss the service in more detail.
Weekdays there is morning prayer at 9:00am and evening prayer at 5:00pm. On Wednesdays there is Holy Communion at 7:00am.
Once a month the congregation gets together to cook a meal. The meal is followed with prayer and discussion.
Redevelopment
St Margaret’s Church is being redeveloped into a community centre. Church services will be moving into the Chapel.
Proposed uses for the church:
- Library
- Bakery
- Clubs (e.g. Film, Theatre, Book, Story, Monday, Gardening, Youth club etc.)
- Exercise classes (e.g. Yoga, , Dancing, Taekwondo etc.)
- Community services (e.g. advice, religion congregation etc.)
- Cafe
- Nursery
- Foodbank
- Shared workspace
There have been discussions of developing the land next to St Margaret’s into a monastic house. In this house member’s of the local community could take vows to live and pray together for 1 or 2 years.

Hi Chris
I am the administrator at STMTQ and have just come across your website. It would be good to get in tou h and give you an update.
I think the area could use a number of your suggested uses above to help bring the bring together those living locally.
I personally have been seeking somewhere in the area to establish (or to be a part of) a food bank/and hot meals outlet “soup kitchen” for those in the area struggling with financial constraints. The dining space could also be used as a community cafe, which could help raise funds for the free services.
I love living in Streatham!
Yours in Christ, Rebecca
